This is true as I do love the good life: fashion, food, travel. "Sundara" means beautiful in Sanskrit and I hope to share some of it with you.Liviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17587228341808797420noreply@blogger.comBlogger243125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3520439247794095853.post-20206895228572820912011-01-12T17:08:00.000-08:002011-01-14T21:26:07.642-08:00New Year, New Blog<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/5356456820/" title="The New A Beautiful LIfe by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5086/5356456820_3c7e87db91.jpg" width="500" height="309" alt="The New A Beautiful LIfe" /></a><br />I'm very pleased to announce the launch of a brand new look for <a href="http://abeautifullife.ca/">A Beautiful Life</a>! After the indulgences of the holidays, I just feel like hunkering down by the fire, eating simple home made food, and having some quiet time.<br /><br />We did just that on New Year's Day. We hosted a brunch for family, and hubby was inspired to make a rustic loaf of bread after his success with a thin crust potato pizza. We started off with the most basic of ingredients: yeast, some sugar, organic whole wheat flour and regular white flour, milk and eggs. And no recipe - made up by hubby as he went along.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/5314038418/" title="DSC_0716 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 403px; height: 423px;" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5005/5314038418_035953179a.jpg" alt="DSC_0716" /></a><br />The process started the night before with prepping the dough. Plenty of kneading and mixing...<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/5313443681/" title="DSC_0717 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 352px; height: 457px;" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5164/5313443681_70dda00228.jpg" alt="DSC_0717" /></a><br />There was something satisfying about watching the dough rise into a giant ball over time. The kneading process was repeated a few times.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/5314039360/" title="DSC_0724 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 417px; height: 379px;" src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5043/5314039360_da48f1ff88.jpg" alt="DSC_0724" /></a><br />By morning, we were ready to put our masterpiece into the oven. An irregular shaped loaf was formed.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/5313444481/" title="DSC_0738 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 410px; height: 280px;" To all my readers of A Beautiful Life, I want to thank you for your readership, for your conversation, and for inspiring me to keep sharing with you all those little things in life I cherish. I wish you a very happy new year. And 2011, I am ready for you!<div><br /></div><div>There's been a lot of change in my life lately (<a href="http://sundaralife.blogspot.com/2010/12/my-friends-meet-nala.html">see Nala</a>), and there's lots more to come over the next 12 months. I can't say I know the direction of where this blog is going, but that's all part of the adventure, right?<div><br /></div><div>As you know I'm super behind on my blog posts: I still have Europe pictures from Amsterdam and Copenhagen I haven't posted. And there's more travel to look forward to with a Hawaii surf trip in February - better whip into bikini shape fast after all this holiday eating.</div><div><br /></div><div>Speaking of the holidays, they go by too fast. Spending lots of time with my puppy Nala on beach walks and forest hikes.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/5311072020/" title="cropped nala by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5166/5311072020_8b368af502.jpg" alt="cropped nala" height="500" width="347" /></a></div><div><i>Sporting new Nobis parka, Mavi cords, and yes, I'm wearing UGGS and I love them. </i></div><div><i><br /></i></div><div>We had one of my best friends Valerie over one night and made thin crust potato pizza from scratch. The past 4 weeks have been insanely busy since hubby and I took our puppy home. My friends, I would like you to meet Nala, my Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/5253011762/" title="IMG_0909 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5206/5253011762_549b1473be.jpg" alt="IMG_0909" width="375" height="500" /></a><br />Pictures have been hard to come by as capturing a wriggly pup isn't the easiest thing to do (lots of blurry pics of a small furry creature). I've also had minimal sleep since she's joined our household, so not really in the mood for a ton of pictures. We are getting some portraits done hopefully in the new year but for now, here are some home pics mostly taken from my phone!<br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">Below: Nala's first week home</span><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/5253009210/" title="DSC_0758 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5045/5253009210_376b40bb2d.jpg" alt="DSC_0758" width="500" height="333" /></a><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">Hubby looking extremely dapper in a tweed hat, coat, and Hunter green wellies and Nala in a green and plaid Shedrow doggie blanket</span><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/5252398081/" title="IMG_1038 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5163/5252398081_97eefa5363.jpg" alt="IMG_1038" width="375" height="500" /></a><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">A rare moment of rest with me sporting red plaid to match her red wheaten coat and collar</span><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/5253005530/" title="DSC_0705 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5289/5253005530_65cb777261.jpg" alt="DSC_0705" width="500" height="403" /></a><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">Yes I know I'm darn cute</span><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/5252397447/" title="IMG_0983 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5121/5252397447_ee602370a8.jpg" alt="IMG_0983" width="375" height="500" /></a><br />With the holidays coming up, I'll have some more time to catch up on A Beautiful Life. Imagine that happening to a girl who has been a hardcore Canucks fan since 1989, who was there at the games in the '94 playoff run, who still to this day loves her team very much despite all the heartaches. Well, it happened to me. (heads up - this is going to be a long post).<div><br /></div><div>Through the kindness of others, I attended the <a href="http://canucks.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=541867">Sports Celebrity for Charity Gala</a> supported by the Canucks that raises money for the Special Olympics. It's truly a wonderful event where you get to interact with the players, bid on an auction, and then break bread with some amazing athletes. An incredibly worthy cause, and the Canucks organization is commended for supporting it. A big hand should go to the players too who show up with such enthusiasm and spend much of the day with a special needs child. This year, my (former) <a href="http://sundaralife.blogspot.com/2010/01/hump-day-hunks-nhl-edition.html">crush Mason Raymond</a> was the spokesperson.<br /></div><div><br /></div><div>My first thought was, what do I wear?? I pulled out my Herve Leger bandage dress, boyfriend jacket, and some sky-high platform booties. Classic quilted Chanel bag on my arm.<br /><br />And from my pictures, you can see the Chanel wasn't the only piece of arm candy I had ;). My friend <a href="http://kissmyflash.tumblr.com/">Kat</a> (<a href="http://twitter.com/katarnett">@KatArnet</a>t) said it was just like <a href="http://sundaralife.blogspot.com/search?q=hump+day+hunks">Hump Day Hunks</a>, but in real life!</div><div><br /></div><div><i>Below: It's Peanut Butter Burrows time!! Really happy Alex is back in the lineup, and even more happy he's standing here with me</i><br /><img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1197/5134039474_0a1a05d4b1.jpg" alt="IMG_0909" height="500" width="375" /><br />The evening started off with some Wii-ing (is that a word?) with Mason and Jeff Tambellini. Mase and Jeff were both really sweet.</div><div><br /></div><div><i>Above: Mason and I after our game of Wii</i><br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">Below: Jeff Tambellini playing Wii Archery with intensity</span><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/5134469581/" title="IMG_0862 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 410px; height: 409px;" src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1238/5134469581_7543830de6.jpg" alt="IMG_0862" /></a><br />I got my official pictures taken with Ryan Kesler and Kevin Bieksa, then Henrik and his two trophies, and finally with Lu and Mase. I apologize I don't have these pictures scanned yet but I'll do another post with them. Ryan was a lot of fun to be around - I tried to convince him to get teammate Alex Burrows on Twitter but with no success.<br /><br />One of the funnest things I did was play table hockey against Swedish defenseman Alex Edler. Hope you're enjoying this beautiful, sunny fall day. The temperature has dipped to a chilly 4 degrees Celsius this morning (that's 39 Fahrenheit), and it's got me excited about some beautiful winter clothing and accessories.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/5086431205/" title="nobis parka by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4130/5086431205_8ed39a07d5.jpg" alt="nobis parka" width="358" height="430" /></a><br /><a href="http://www.nobis.ca/">Nobis</a> has a gorgeous line of mens and womens parkas that look sleek, urban, and warm. I really want their Luna parka, and I can't wait until mid November when the jackets will be arriving in stores locally. <a href="http://www.blogger.com/www.fabclothing.com">FAB, The Premium Denim Store</a>, is supposed to carry the line.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/5087026604/" title="nobis longer parka by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4092/5087026604_c20b4352d3.jpg" alt="nobis longer parka" width="376" height="446" /></a><br />Nobis makes super cute knitted hats and beanies, too.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/5086431237/" title="nobis hat by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4104/5086431237_1f389b6277.jpg" alt="nobis hat" width="375" height="393" /></a><br />I've also ordered a pair of the below <a href="http://www.manitobah.ca/">Manitobah Mukluks</a>. The company is Aboriginal-owned and all shoes are made in Canada. They have many gorgeous styles from ranging from tall to short boots. The soles, unlike other mukluks, can be made with a rubber, treaded vibram sole which makes them suitable for snow and ice. You can choose from a choice of faux fur, or rabbit, coyote or fox fur. I know some of you are going to disagree with the use of animal fur, but please do remember, historically the use of fur is part of Aboriginal culture. <a href="http://www.gravitypope.com/">Gravity Pope</a> sells Manitobah Mukluks, although their website didn't carry the half-wrap style shown here.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitQPwd39hwphkKuE0Vh5EdoU9NMw9hBuOJ2Oi7JUJIxYmNYtNctMKcLFgZcqEgtAkICzoHFD6SYbGxO6T9GnVoL6IE5VlFlTppiI_3ORmRZwzbcsNDByDbvt1kc5Py2K-pFd5pyTi9G-XS/s1600/mukluks+2.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 231px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitQPwd39hwphkKuE0Vh5EdoU9NMw9hBuOJ2Oi7JUJIxYmNYtNctMKcLFgZcqEgtAkICzoHFD6SYbGxO6T9GnVoL6IE5VlFlTppiI_3ORmRZwzbcsNDByDbvt1kc5Py2K-pFd5pyTi9G-XS/s320/mukluks+2.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5528697297205783890" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEqS83g0fxzmPy_DzNRzSSsMHeVnYn9OILMnKAtQa4lOW24rTIttwS9giwIWNRC0oEpQpyDNF-YpgyHC8KSZOdUd4oMx0zpWSkhA6Jeidh_xgSZ3lME9fmM1fhxmB-Lhq7fAJ30oFgcbZD/s1600/brightlytwisted+scarf.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 282px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEqS83g0fxzmPy_DzNRzSSsMHeVnYn9OILMnKAtQa4lOW24rTIttwS9giwIWNRC0oEpQpyDNF-YpgyHC8KSZOdUd4oMx0zpWSkhA6Jeidh_xgSZ3lME9fmM1fhxmB-Lhq7fAJ30oFgcbZD/s320/brightlytwisted+scarf.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5528699422852833234" border="0" /></a><br /><br />I couldn't help getting a tie-dyed scarf by <a href="http://www.brightlytwisted.com/">Brightly Twisted</a> from Hills of Kerrisdale (you can buy it online from <a href="http://www.vionnetboutique.com/">Vionnet Boutique</a>, pictured here). Take this pleated skirt. I loved the intricate lace and tulle detailing, but it just didn't quite sit right. Too saggy at the hips, and I was ready to write it off.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4993738571/" title="IMG_3797 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 414px; height: 301px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4086/4993738571_ec931b1273.jpg" alt="IMG_3797" /></a><br />My rose buckle belt saved it from being another impulse buy heading for the donation bin. It was a favourite item of mine when I was in Europe, simply because it made everything look and fit better. The elastic meant it was flexible to fit on nearly any bottom, pants, shorts or skirts.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4994347352/" title="IMG_3794cropped by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4128/4994347352_6e6bf614f5.jpg" alt="IMG_3794cropped" width="388" height="500" /></a><br />Nearly gone too to the bin was this Talula navy blue blouse, which I loved at first sight but then soon grew tired. I'sle sur la Sorgue, Loumarin, Ansouis, Cadenet, and my favourite Bonnieux, where I stopped for tarte aux framboise.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4958602355/" title="DSC_0550 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 432px; height: 351px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4131/4958602355_f38b5b0c09.jpg" alt="DSC_0550" /></a><br />There's something so gorgeous about simply eating what's fresh, local and in season. Aubergine caviar, zucchini tart, shaved black truffle omelet, ripe melon salad - these were the flavours of the summer. A glass or two of wine (pink or white at lunch, red at dinner) was always at hand.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4984139343/" title="P1030348 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4103/4984139343_321e9d2cd0.jpg" alt="P1030348" width="375" height="500" /></a><br />Then, there's <a href="http://www.theluberon.com/restaurants.htm#closerie">La Closerie</a>. Recommended as a "must" by our hosts at the guesthouse, we wisely booked a table and treated ourselves to a 3-course meal under the vine-covered terrace.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4992224664/" title="P1030331 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 448px; height: 337px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4153/4992224664_a81a8aa8fe.jpg" alt="P1030331" /></a><br />To start, ricotta stuffed courgette flowers with chanterelle mushrooms and the largest shaved discs of black truffle I'd ever eaten. The earthiness of the chanterelles and truffles complimented each other, and the deepness contrasted beautifully with the freshness of the courgette flowers. The creamy ricotta smoothed everything together into one giant love-in. If I can eat my way into spirituality, then this must be the stairway to heaven.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4991624639/" title="P1030335 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 444px; height: 334px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4107/4991624639_4e69155608.jpg" alt="P1030335" /></a><br />Hubby's starter of smoked salmon, spring greens and waffle seemed unconventional but I assure you it was just about as good as my truffle decadence. The waffle was more savory than sweet, crispy on the outside but fluffy on the inside. We both believe there's more than 1 path to enlightenment and if in doubt, why not try both?<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4991626921/" title="P1030336 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 431px; height: 324px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4124/4991626921_cbe88c9ed3.jpg" alt="P1030336" /></a><br />My religious food experience was just warming up when my main arrived. Roasted white fish with cherry tomatoes, squash puree, and baby potatoes. The skin was blackened and crispy while the fish was moist and flakey.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4991635711/" title="P1030340 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 436px; height: 328px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4127/4991635711_c786471b1a.jpg" alt="P1030340" /></a><br />The stars came out and dessert came with it to bring me home to nirvana. Especially if that city is as sexy as Stockholm. It was a quickie stop in the land of Ikea, hockey greats, and bombshell blondes (<a href="http://sundaralife.blogspot.com/search?q=hump+day+hunks+soccer">Hello Freddie Ljungberg!</a>), and we made the most of it.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4988835634/" title="P1030200 cropped by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 309px; height: 541px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4125/4988835634_cb3eb5b2f0.jpg" alt="P1030200 cropped" /></a><br />I dressed up for a night out with hubby at the Michelin-starred <a href="http://www.blogger.com/www.f12.se">F12 restaurant</a>. The Swedes are known to be genetically blessed with beauty so I felt the pressure to doll it up in a <a href="http://www.blogger.com/www.herveleger.com/">Herve Leger</a> one-shouldered dress. Unfortunately my coworker convinced me out of bringing my strappy <a href="http://sundaralife.blogspot.com/2010/04/its-my-last-day-in-hong-kong.html">hot five-inch platforms</a>, so I was stuck with my more casual wedges (grr). I guess I should thank her because the cobbled streets would have killed me and likely destroyed my shoes.<br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">Below: Hubby looking sleek as he strolls casually into F12.</span><br /><br />I wish I had some photos of our meal at F12 but they turned out horribly. I have to say I was disappointed with the meal, being my first Michelin-starred experience. The overuse of foam, which I ranted about at <a href="http://theunreserved.com/blogs/Liv/posts/can-foam-ever-be-a-good-thing">The Unreserved</a>, is all I really remember about the cuisine. There was supposedly a "berry" theme to the night which I don't recall, and my dessert souffle didn't satisfy because it needed more ice-cream.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4988846322/" title="P1030202 cropped by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 351px; height: 537px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4105/4988846322_c0c7f6c284.jpg" alt="P1030202 cropped" /></a><br />We visited the Swedish Royal Palace museum and upon our luck, just happened to see the changing of the guard ceremony which consisted of about 50 horses marching down the main promenade. The rows of grey and brown horses were so elegant and of course I was in horsey heaven just being able to see the royal four-hoofed fleet.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4988851826/" title="P1030188cropped by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 450px; height: 249px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4144/4988851826_9ca14bf866.jpg" alt="P1030188cropped" /></a><br />Old town, Gamla Stan, was charming with its narrow alleys and cobbled streets, but quite touristy. After a full day of walking, we stopped for a light lunch and coffee break and just soaked in the hustle and bustle of the town.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4958081989/" title="P1030180 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 439px; height: 330px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4105/4958081989_1de85a162e.jpg" alt="P1030180" /></a><br />We stayed at the <a href="http://www.blogger.com/www.clarionstockholm.com/startpage.aspx">Clarion Stockholm Hotel</a> in the trendy SoFo (Sodermalm) area and it was lovely. Very modern and clean, and a very peaceful night's sleep. Sodermalm has tons of boutique shopping, cafes and bars, and we enjoyed an afternoon of browsing in the shops (picked up a couple of pretty tunics). I'll have some more pics posted as soon I as load up my pictures.Liviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17587228341808797420noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3520439247794095853.post-81016342749217940582010-09-05T08:58:00.000-07:002010-09-05T09:46:36.336-07:00Luminence<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4960651714/" title="DSC_0635 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 371px; height: 575px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4083/4960651714_fd8708d825.jpg" alt="DSC_0635" /></a><br />That famous soft golden light of Provence that inspired so many artists. We stayed in a little farmhouse paradise called <a href="http://www.fermedelaplatane.com/">Ferme de La Platane</a>, nestled in the valleys of the Luberon mountains, surrounded by vineyards.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4960115999/" title="DSC_0516 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 372px; height: 557px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4080/4960115999_d88f374579.jpg" alt="DSC_0516" /></a><br />Our 18th century stone mas was absolutely perfect with our own terrace that looked onto the chateau, full kitchen and the use of the BBQ, boules pitch, and of course a sparkling pool. The hosts Rosemary and Peter were extremely helpful and generous, making bookings to local restaurants and attending to our needs. One night we even did a communal BBQ with another couple (hello Catrin and Andy!) and shared our feast of goodies we had each gathered earlier that day from the local market. Marinated herb chicken, mixed sausages of pork and lapin (sorry bunnies), ratatouille, mashed potatoes, goat cheese salad, fresh baguettes, more cheese to finish. We ate and drank in merriment until Van Gogh's starry night came to life.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4960724118/" title="IMG_0697 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4138/4960724118_9bb144b77f.jpg" alt="IMG_0697" width="375" height="500" /></a><br />You can just see the chateau off to the right of hubby from the terrace. Are you all ready for Fall yet? Back from Europe now, trying to sort out my pictures so I can get blogging again. In all I visited Copenhagen, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Provence, and Paris - a whirlwind of a trip. I loved spending time in the museums and seeing the art by the Dutch masters and my favourite, the French impressionists. Walking into the Musee D'Orsay, I felt like a kid in a candy store. Hope you are all enjoying your summer. Wanted to post a quick note to say I will be taking the month of August off and away from blogging until September. There will be more new outfit posts, good food and travel updates, and of course Hump Day Hunks back in the fall. Plus I <span style="font-style: italic;">finally</span> found a new lease to horse - you'll be meeting him soon.<br /><br />See you all in the fall and have yourself an lovely rest of the summer.<br /><br />xoxo<br /><br />A Beautiful LifeLiviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17587228341808797420noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3520439247794095853.post-14119965572694256912010-07-25T10:07:00.000-07:002010-07-25T10:22:51.848-07:00Fave Photos from Salt Spring IslandHappy Sunday! What are you all up to today? I attended a wedding by myself last night for the first time in a long time because hubby was not available. It was definitely a strange feeling being there without a date! Slightly awkward but fortunately for me, there were a few people I knew there from my high school days that made it a little bit easier.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4814013117/" title="P1030037 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 475px; height: 629px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4075/4814013117_e877ec9303.jpg" alt="P1030037" /></a><br />I put together some of my fave photos from my recent weekend in Salt Spring. The above picture is probably one of my faves - it was taken on the resort property that we stayed at, Hastings House. Spent a wonderful long weekend at Salt Spring Island which is a couple of hours by ferry away from Vancouver. It was very relaxing and felt like a world away, yet we were always busy in the sense that there was always something to see or do. I'll do another post with some of my fave pics on the trip, which was full of hiking, checking out arts and craft studios, visiting organic farms, swimming, and of course culinary delights!<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4792706656/" title="IMG_0521 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4114/4792706656_ee245ac0dd.jpg" alt="IMG_0521" width="500" height="366" /></a><br />I'm going to focus this post on one of my favourite things to do on Salt Spring - the weekly <a href="http://www.saltspringmarket.com/">Saturday market</a>. The market brings together all of the artists, craftspeople, farmers and other entrepreneurs on Salt Spring to hawk their goods. Here you'll find delicious home made tarts, organic produce, local smoked salmon, jewelry, hand-thrown pottery, soap, and just about anything else that might be artsy, hippy, whimsical and even wacky. It's a chaotic few hours when the market is on, and it's <span style="font-style: italic;">the</span> place to be on a sunny Saturday. Shoppers jockey for space amongst the booths, and visitors and locals alike are eager to fill their reusable shopping bags with organic goodies like heirloom tomatoes, cheese, and spring greens.<br /><br />Delectable tarts...<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4792707408/" title="IMG_0526 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 553px; height: 247px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4081/4792707408_bdac02e56a.jpg" alt="IMG_0526" /></a><br />Giant heads of purple garlic...<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4792074699/" title="IMG_0527 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4116/4792074699_f0316b1e67.jpg" alt="IMG_0527" width="478" height="500" /></a><br />Colourful Provence-inspired fabric...<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4792071947/" title="IMG_0508 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4116/4792071947_0b6e8bd22c.jpg" alt="IMG_0508" width="375" height="500" /></a><br />Pendants featuring wild daisies...<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4792073935/" title="IMG_0510 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4095/4792073935_cb50fc1a3e.jpg" alt="IMG_0510" width="500" height="442" /></a><br />Natural, hand-made soaps...<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4792706454/" title="IMG_0525 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 487px; height: 366px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4102/4792706454_228d39023c.jpg" alt="IMG_0525" /></a><br />I came away with some fantastic treasures: a custom hammered silver cuff by <a href="http://twjewelry.com/">Salt Spring Silversmith</a>, stackable silver rings by Mint Jewellery Design, olive-oil lavender soaps from Bare With Me, and something I had never heard of before: Rose Petal Bead jewelry.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4792708736/" title="IMG_0523 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 353px; height: 538px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4138/4792708736_56ea4ea173.jpg" alt="IMG_0523" /></a><br />Creator Marcus Knox takes rose petals and cooks them down into a moldable mash, from which he hand rolls each bead. The colour of the bead is black no matter what colour the rose was in its former incarnation. The beads retain a faint rose scent for the duration of their life.. The sweet fragrance is enhanced when warmed by the wearer's body.<br /><br />The history of the beads is fascinating. The origins trace back to 15th century India where monks made them as prayer beads for counting during meditation. It was adopted by the Catholics and rose petal beads were commonly used in the Rosary.<br /><br />I couldn't resist picking up a bracelet with an uneven pearl, and a rosary with a mother-of-pearl cross. Not only do I love the romantic symbolism of the rose, but I feel connected to the spiritual origins. Stylistically, I'm digging the dark, edgy feel of the black beads, yet the pearly accents sweeten it up. I put the bracelet on at the market and have worn it ever since.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4792074479/" title="IMG_0530 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 403px; height: 536px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4115/4792074479_6faaac3a59.jpg" alt="IMG_0530" /></a><br />I'm sorry I don't have better pictures of my sundress dress, which is new from Fine Finds. I'll post my outfit properly soon but these are the pictures I had on hand for now. Here are a couple of pics of my cousins though enjoying the market.<br /><br />Cecile smiling in her embroidered number<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4792073757/" title="IMG_0516 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 313px; height: 693px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4079/4792073757_949f33ed28.jpg" alt="IMG_0516" /></a><br />Tracy sparkling in a glittery dress with the shades of the ocean<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4792707018/" title="IMG_0519 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 389px; height: 526px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4101/4792707018_304a623190.jpg" alt="IMG_0519" /></a>Liviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17587228341808797420noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3520439247794095853.post-85480597958929815342010-07-05T23:09:00.000-07:002010-07-05T23:57:57.920-07:00Style Challenge: What to Wear to the Stampede?I have been stumped lately with blogging, partly because I haven't had time to take pictures of all my new purchases with mom being in town and partly because I haven't been all that inspired. Last night, my sister in law, who happens to be one of my best friends, inspired me to write some sartorial advice for her. She is going to the <a href="http://calgarystampede.com/">Calgary Stampede</a> this weekend and needs something to wear that is cute but classy. Now I've never been to the Calgary Stampede, but having seen some fashion disasters from the Cloverdale Rodeo, I've provided some alternatives.<br /><br />The key is to mix things up and borrow from themes that are related to, but not limited to, just the western look. Try broadening to an overall more country look, or the related Americana/Prairie look, and you 'll have a lot more options. Or, consider trends which may have western influences but are updated in a modern way (think fringing, studding, destroyed denim, plaid, suede). Top it off with a cowboy hat or a straw fedora if you feel like it but I don't think it's required to create the vibe.<br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Vintage Cowgirl</span>: This look is inspired by the cool cowgirls of times past. A classy silk western shirt with denim shorts or maybe a eyelet tiered skirt and tank with cowboy boots. Accessories should be kept simple. Horsey motifs (horseshoes, bridle/bit inspired jewelry) would work nicely.<br /><br />Below: Young Fabulous and Broke Eyelet Tiered Skirt; Equipment Silk Western Blouse; BE&D Cowboy Mini Bag<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4766528241/" title="young fabulous and broke caroline skirt by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4142/4766528241_c48118903c.jpg" alt="young fabulous and broke caroline skirt" width="254" height="500" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4766528875/" title="equipment western blouse by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4080/4766528875_3b871791f9.jpg" alt="equipment western blouse" width="254" height="500" /></a><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4766528599/" title="cowboy mini bag by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4143/4766528599_aff75474b1.jpg" alt="cowboy mini bag" width="254" height="500" /></a><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Country Floral</span>: With florals everywhere this spring/summer, they are an easy trend to incorporate into a western look. Small flowers, against a backdrop of a pastel colour, has a country look to it that makes it suitable for the Stampede. I love these itty bitty high-waisted shorts. Pair with an off-the-shoulder white blouse and sky-high clogs.<br /><br />Below: Kettle Black High Waisted Floral Shorts; Rachel Pally Senorita Top; Jeffrey Campbell Clogs<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4766528483/" title="kettle black high waisted denim shorts by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4143/4766528483_205e6b7988.jpg" alt="kettle black high waisted denim shorts" width="254" height="500" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4766528903/" title="rachel pally senority top by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4080/4766528903_c9953a2bce.jpg" alt="rachel pally senority top" width="254" height="500" /></a><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4766528575/" title="jeffrey campbell clogs by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4098/4766528575_a8e3fb7253.jpg" alt="jeffrey campbell clogs" width="254" height="500" /></a><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">City Slicker</span>: For the city girl, a black dress with fringe details will give you a western look without going too down country. Wear the cowboy boots if you dare. A studded wristlet gussies it up.<br /><br />Below: Haute Hippe Suede Dress; Golden Goose Star Booties; Elizabeth and James Suede booties; BE&D Studded Wristlet<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4766528377/" title="haute hippe suede dress by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4097/4766528377_cdc145331f.jpg" alt="haute hippe suede dress" width="254" height="500" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4767167426/" title="golden goose star zip booties by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4135/4767167426_100f35346a.jpg" alt="golden goose star zip booties" width="254" height="500" /></a><br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4766528515/" title="elizabeth and james lizzy suede cuff booties by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4075/4766528515_82f251e1dc.jpg" alt="elizabeth and james lizzy suede cuff booties" width="254" height="500" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4767167490/" title="BE&amp;D studded wristlet by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4075/4767167490_98d23ee794.jpg" alt="BE&amp;D studded wristlet" width="254" height="500" /></a><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Prairie Princess</span>: I'm crazy about the prairie look of denim and colourful prints like gingham, plaid, and it's an easy look to throw together that's cute but not too dressy.<br /><br />Below: Thakoon Denim Dress; Joie Rock Steady Fringe Booties; Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent Wrap; Joie Cece Dress<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4766528821/" title="thakoon denim dress by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4134/4766528821_bccbb1454c.jpg" alt="thakoon denim dress" width="254" height="500" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4766528741/" title="joie rock steady fringe booties by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4141/4766528741_cd95a71bd7.jpg" alt="joie rock steady fringe booties" width="254" height="500" /></a><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4767167306/" title="twelft st by cynthia vincent by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4123/4767167306_027803767f.jpg" alt="twelft st by cynthia vincent" width="254" height="500" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4767167256/" title="joie cece dress by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4097/4767167256_da1a901ef1.jpg" alt="joie cece dress" width="254" height="500" /></a><br /><br /><span style="font-weight: bold;">Double Denim (aka Canadian Tuxedo)</span>: It wasn't too long ago that double denim was a big no-no. Because after waiting for nearly two months, my <a href="http://www.bagsnob.com/2009/10/alexa_chung_in_tan_mulberry_al.html">Alexa bag</a> from Mulberry arrived. Along with my mom, of course.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4737843058/" title="P1030013 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4076/4737843058_2742942952.jpg" alt="P1030013" width="375" height="500" /></a><br />I've used this bag pretty much every day this week - one of the reasons I wanted it so badly is because of it's versatility. The long straps mean the bag can be worn several different ways - across like a messenger, looped around short like a shoulder bag, or tucked in for a school bag look. The brown leather is soft for comfort yet sturdy enough to hold heaps of things. This is going to be my It-bag for all those plane and train rides in Europe. <br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4737844926/" title="P1030018 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4100/4737844926_efd84bf168.jpg" alt="P1030018" width="375" height="500" /></a><br />All good reasons to smile. And of course, some TLC and pampering from Mom too goes a long way. =D<br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">So tell me, what's your go-to, It bag? This time I'm holding nothing back, and I've put together some of the best looking World Cup footballing chaps for your Wednesday viewing pleasure. Included in his 2nd feature on Hump Day Hunks is French cutie Yoann Gourcuff, who must be sobbing in disbelief after he was tossed out of the crucial France-South Africa game which led to France's exit. Poor Yoann, I'm sure there'll be girls a plenty for you to take comfort in.<br /><br />Above and below: Yoanne Gourcuff, who was apparently quite the target amongst his own French team due to what some say was jealousy.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4726294354/" title="yoann-gourcuff-nouvelle-idole-sexy-foot-L-1 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1044/4726294354_f3e67300e2.jpg" alt="yoann-gourcuff-nouvelle-idole-sexy-foot-L-1" height="425" width="394" /></a><br />England too might find they have a couple of sexy sulkers in Frank Lampard and Steven Garrard if the Three Lions fail to advance to the next round.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4726294288/" title="lampstopless by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1063/4726294288_3162240394.jpg" alt="lampstopless" height="500" width="386" /></a><br />Steven Gerrard...grrr...<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4726294226/" title="SPORT SOCCER CHAMPIONS by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1057/4726294226_413eec39b0.jpg" alt="SPORT SOCCER CHAMPIONS" height="500" width="292" /></a><br />A couple of Team USA hotties will be fairly happy if they can beat Algeria in their next game.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4725645449/" title="01m by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1244/4725645449_7ac7e29587.jpg" alt="01m" height="480" width="320" /></a><br />Above: Benny Feilhaber of Team USA<br />Below: Oguchi Onyewu of Team USA<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4725646909/" title="Oguchi Onyewu usa by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 407px; height: 442px;" src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1182/4725646909_6a08995f6f.jpg" alt="Oguchi Onyewu usa" /></a><br />I know nothing really about Australia football but that's doesn't stop me from crushing on Aussie Harry Kewell. I'm having fun playing around with my hair - some days I've slicked it back (think Victoria Beckham), others I've pushed it forwards messily and finished with my favourite surf spray. I've glammed it up with pretty, tulle and pearl adorned handbands, or if I'm feeling a more grungy vibe, I reach for my braided suede headband. There's a style to suit my chameleon moods. NOTE: Please ignore the horribly tacky sign - I didn't realize it was in the picture and we were in a hurry to get inside the restaurant for our table.<br /><br />I've used a variety of products to style my hair and I've found a few that I like:<br /><br />1. <span style="font-weight: bold;">Best Gel for a slicked back pixie</span>: I tried <a href="http://www.blogger.com/www.bumbleandbumble.com">Bumble and Bumble BB Gel</a> and <a href="http://www.oribe.com/index.php/products/9">Oribe Gel Serum</a> (thanks to <a href="http://www.blogger.com/www.beautymark.ca">BeautyMark</a> for giving me both samples) and by far I liked Oribe for a firm hold to last all day but wasn't sticky or too stiff. The BB Gel is nice for light hold but I can't trust it'll stay all day.<br /><br />2. <span style="font-weight: bold;">Best Surf Spray</span>: <a href="http://www.johnmasters.ca/">John Masters Organics Sea Mist</a> hands down gives you that straight-out-of-the-surf look. I prefer it to Bumble and Bumble's Surf Spray which is a bit heavy and sticky. Plus, Sea Mist has a sweet lavender scent so you don't smell like a kelpy seawitch =D.<br /><br />3. <span style="font-weight: bold;">Best Hair Spray</span>: I will go with <a href="http://www.bumbleandbumble.com/product/spp.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CAT73&PRODUCT_ID=193">Bumble and Bumble's Does It All Spray</a> because it provides an airy and flexible hold that highlights the piecey-ness.<br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4701874283/" title="IMG_0417 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4021/4701874283_e0676c0534.jpg" alt="IMG_0417" width="354" height="500" /></a><br />Now onto the food...<a href="http://www.blogger.com/www.pied-a-terre-bistro.ca">Pied-a-Terre</a> is a fave of mine because of how low-key it is and the food I've had there on numerous occasion has always been good. I just love simple, classic food, and this French bistro has it down.<br /><br />We started with a French Onion Tarte with Bacon Frisse Salad.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4702508470/" title="IMG_0419 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4011/4702508470_ba17a07441.jpg" alt="IMG_0419" width="369" height="500" /></a><br />Hubby ordered the Lamb Duo special with braised and roast lamb. Served with asparagus, mashed potatoes and a roasted tomato.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4702509140/" title="IMG_0423 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4055/4702509140_f0ef914fdd.jpg" alt="IMG_0423" width="500" height="297" /></a><br />We had no room for dessert but that was probably a good thing because I can never decide between their Creme Brulee, Chocolate Tarte, or Lemon Tarte.<br /><br />Outfit:<br />Asymetric White Tee by Ambient (the back is longer than the front and I love it)<br />Distressed Jean Shorts by Ambient<br />Grey Coverup - from <a href="http://www.yelp.ca/biz/gateau-lingerie-company-vancouver">Gateau Lingerie</a><br />Fleur de Lis necklace - <a href="http://www.blogger.com/www.pyrrha.com">Pyrrah</a><br />Tulle Headband - <a href="http://www.blogger.com/www.blueruby.com/">Blue Ruby</a><br />Sandals - <a href="http://elizabethandjames.us/">Elizabeth and James</a><br />Black Mini Hobo - <a href="http://www.hugoboss.com/">Hugo Boss</a><br />Sunglasses - Rayban ClubmastersLiviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17587228341808797420noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3520439247794095853.post-51797727838314601452010-06-09T18:35:00.000-07:002010-06-09T18:57:10.492-07:00Hump Day Hunks: Italian Edition World Cup<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4687021914/" title="dolce ad by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 456px; height: 308px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4022/4687021914_dfb1b7327d.jpg" alt="dolce ad" /></a><br />Better late than never, right ladies? As promised in my last <a href="http://sundaralife.blogspot.com/2010/05/hump-day-hunks-football-edition.html">Hump Day Hunks: Football Edition</a>, I would dedicate a whole HDH to just the players on Team Italy. Why? I think it's obvious isn't it, especially when Dolce & Gabbana features them year after year, pretty much naked.<br /><br />This behind the scenes video of the D&G photoshoot is a bit steamy...<br /><object width="420" height="305"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/A3ZO3kZreiI&hl=en_US&fs=1&"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/A3ZO3kZreiI&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="420" height="305"></embed></object><br />I must confess that unlike hockey, I really don't know too much about football or the players for that matter. So let's just get straight to it.<br /><br />First up, Fabio Cannavaro, who I definitely recognize from many shirtless ads.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4687022138/" title="Fabio Cannavaro by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 463px; height: 342px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4005/4687022138_a26f7a24b3.jpg" alt="Fabio Cannavaro" /></a><br />Next up, goalkeeper Federico Marchetti.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4686388285/" title="Federico Marchetti by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4021/4686388285_53a957d2ec.jpg" alt="Federico Marchetti" width="500" height="452" /></a><br />D-man Leonardo Bonucci.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4687022200/" title="Leonardo Bonucci by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4047/4687022200_f38722c35c.jpg" alt="Leonardo Bonucci" width="500" height="335" /></a><br />Sexy striker Alberto Gilardino. I must say I'm liking this shot.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4686387927/" title="Alberto Gilardino by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4027/4686387927_06e44348dc.jpg" alt="Alberto Gilardino" width="350" height="447" /></a><br />This next footballer is who I think the most gorgeous on Team Italy: midfielder Claudio Marchisio. Looking cute with both long and short hair (second pic below).<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4686387857/" title="Juventus - Allenamento - Ritiro estivo 2007 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4027/4686387857_63389ffba2.jpg" alt="Juventus - Allenamento - Ritiro estivo 2007" width="333" height="500" /></a><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4687022002/" title="Claudio Marchisio 2 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1307/4687022002_bdbe352c6a.jpg" alt="Claudio Marchisio 2" width="470" height="288" /></a><br />Not too sure about his posing here but I've included Gennaro Gattuso for you girls who like more manly-man types.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4686388109/" title="Gennaro Gattuso by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4059/4686388109_97071cb72a.jpg" alt="Gennaro Gattuso" width="352" height="500" /></a><br />I've got heaps more coming on Hump Day Hunks as we build up to the start of the FIFA World Cup so stay tuned!<br /><br />If you enjoyed this article, you might want to check out:<br /><a href="http://sundaralife.blogspot.com/2010/01/hump-day-hunks-surfer-edition.html">Hump Day Hunks: Surfers Edition </a>(my all time favourite)<br /><a href="http://sundaralife.blogspot.com/2010/05/hump-day-hunks-football-edition.html">Hump Day Hunks: Football Edition</a><br /><a href="http://sundaralife.blogspot.com/2010/02/hump-day-hunks-2010-olympic-games_24.html">Hump Day Hunks: Olympic Games Edition</a>Liviehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17587228341808797420noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3520439247794095853.post-89565010126897002952010-05-30T20:26:00.000-07:002010-05-30T20:48:34.355-07:00Chop Chop<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4655077580/" title="DSC_0992 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4033/4655077580_c845ffe84d.jpg" alt="DSC_0992" width="295" height="500" /></a><br />This is the last shoot of me with my longish bob because today I cropped it all off into a pixie! Not quite as short as Carey Mulligan but definitely inspired by her as well as Michelle Williams' new cut she debuted at Cannes. Not that it matters in these photos anyways since you can't see my head! On the bright side, the rain is reminding me of my mini Tofino getaway. My friends <a href="http://www.vancityallie.com">Allie</a> and Allan were also in Tofino so we had a chance to hang out. We went to the Spotted Bear Bistro for dinner and then I hit the water with them for some evening surf with my brand new board. Some of you, like my friend <a href="http://sundaralife.blogspot.com/2009/07/how-she-harems.html">Taline, said yes</a>.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4627209168/" title="DSC_0917 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img style="width: 466px; height: 459px;" src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4043/4627209168_32ab151cce.jpg" alt="DSC_0917" /></a><br />I found these low slung harem hipsters in Hong Kong. As soon as I put them on, I never looked back. They are incredibly comfortable and amazingly, the accentuated hip was not as unflattering as I expected. I've been rolling them into cuffs and wearing them with all sorts of crazy platforms and high heels. Like these Betsey Johnson platforms from my uni days that I completely forgot about.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/50392482@N07/4627209306/" title="DSC_0934 by A Beautiful Life1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3404/4627209306_35023f55ab.jpg" alt="DSC_0934" width="366" height="500" /></a><br />My sheer rose blouse is made in Japan, but like the engine-red tuxedo jacket, it was scooped up in Hong Kong. I think my bag looks something like from Grandma's attic (nevermind that my Gran never lived in a house with an attic); it was a basement bargain for $2 at the York House School Fair. Easily my cheapest hangbag of all time.<br /><br />Happy May long weekend for all my Canadian readers! Anyone have any exciting plans? Anything that looks victorian, with motifs such as crosses, fleur de lis, hearts, and animals, or anything my grandma or pa might have worn, is catching my eye right now.<br /><br />Like the pieces created by Vancouver's own <a href="http://www.pyrrha.com/">Pyrrha</a>. The rings, necklaces, and bracelets have an aged look which are cast using from 19th century wax seals. Each piece has a meaning behind it: the above Lion and Stag ring has a crest which reads "Neither be fearful nor wanting". The Horse Cameo below signifies courage, intelligence and grace.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjygpxS_321UzNDRALCpxeEEaSSPhjY703ZvuyP9z13YXz7wVJSWJvnIShK1bHiUZXVhfEX7_blY7nFJm4xVF1gCTMOCjwV27b6VdNfjRVdqJ2HAfluf5oNEtsZBKU0i7v5HTd8IejG-W7j/s1600/horse+cameo"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjygpxS_321UzNDRALCpxeEEaSSPhjY703ZvuyP9z13YXz7wVJSWJvnIShK1bHiUZXVhfEX7_blY7nFJm4xVF1gCTMOCjwV27b6VdNfjRVdqJ2HAfluf5oNEtsZBKU0i7v5HTd8IejG-W7j/s320/horse+cameo" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5469817029280574146" border="0" /></a><br />I spotted this cute dove in a cage piece on <a href="http://www.modcloth.com/">Mod Cloth</a>.
